September 15, 2011

We have important news to share with parents and community members in this issue of IN FOCUS.  Page High School is among six schools in the state to receive the 2011 National BLUE RIBBON SCHOOL Award.  We'll explain why this is such a huge honor.  Speaking of Page High, the school is also in the running for the first ever SCORE PRIZE which could land them $10,000.  Williamson County Schools annual COLLEGE FAIR is coming up soon. We'll tell you which colleges and universities will be in attendance.  And congratulations to the 19 Williamson County students who were named National MERIT SEMIFINALISTS.

This issue of IN FOCUS also features the return of our popular Lunch Lessons with Libby segment.  This week, Libby explains how families can apply for FREE OR REDUCED PRICE meals as well as PROPER BEHAVIOR for students in the lunch line.  Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue include a special honor for the Franklin High School Marching Band's WIND ENSEMBLE and a teacher's effort to educate his students about 9/11.  Plus, we'll tell you how a recent competition between two schools is helping to FEED THE NEEDY.

Fundraisers are always a great way to help out your local schools, and there are plenty of them happening this time of year.  The Page High School Band is selling PASTRIES, Ravenwood High School is hosting a DANCE CLINIC and Summit High is planning a special CONCERT PERFORMANCE featuring some very talented local artists.  Plus, don't forget to check out the annual Williamson County EXHIBITION OF BANDS September 17 at Ravenwood.  It's sure to be a night of great music.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released September 29.
