ISSUE 5

IN THIS ISSUE...

Autumn is finally here and the first quarter grading period will be coming to an end soon.  Students have plenty to be excited about these days.  In addition to all the homecoming events and festivals, Fall Break is just a few weeks away.  Students will have Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18 off, giving both them and their teachers a well-deserved break.

This issue of IN FOCUS features four videos.  In the first one, we'll take you to Fairview where students at Westwood Elementary School joined parents for a READING TAILGATE party.  Then, it's off to Brentwood to find out how students at Edmondson Elementary School celebrated this year's INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY.  Williamson County's favorite lunch lady is back with another lesson for parents and students.  This week, Libby will show you how to navigate the FOOD SERVICE WEBSITE.  And last but not least, we'll show you performances from each Williamson County high school marching band as they entertained audiences at the EXHIBITION OF BANDS.

Other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include a MESSAGE FOR PARENTS from WCS Superintendent Dr. Mike Looney, new information regarding the district's effort to develop a world LANGUAGE CURRICULUM at all grade levels, and details pertaining to this year's World of Possibilities CAREER FAIR.  Plus, we have some tips for parents as they begin preparing for the first PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES of the school year.

Williamson County Schools is home to some of the most talented students in the nation.  Read how one local high school student is MAKING HER MARK in the world of math.  Plus, we celebrate all of the wonderful accomplishments of students and staff in our STUDENT SPOTLIGHT, STAFF SPOTLIGHT and AWARDS & ACCOLADES sections.

This week's RUMOR MILL features questions regarding hot topics like bus routes and TCAP scores.  Be sure to check it out.  We also have several upcoming performances listed in the MUSIC/THEATER section including Fairview High School's production of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap.  Get a glimpse of life inside the classroom with our PHOTO GALLERY.  Inside, you'll find snapshots of students and teachers from schools across the county.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.
