October 13, 2011

Autumn is here and the second quarter grading period is underway.  Fall Break begins this weekend, giving students and teachers a well deserved break.  Students will have Monday, October 17 and Tuesday, October 18 off before returning to the classroom October 19.

This issue of IN FOCUS features five videos.  In the first one, we'll take you to Brentwood Middle School where former students and staff gathered October 7 to celebrate the school's 40TH ANNIVERSARY.  Then, we'll travel down the road to Scales Elementary where students received a special visit by the NASHVILLE PREDATORS.  Further south, students and staff at Independence High School found a unique way to mark the TENTH ANNIVERSARY of 9/11.  Plus, thousands of high school students explored their options for higher education at the 2011 COLLEGE FAIR.  And last but not least, we'll introduce you to a new monthly feature of IN FOCUS called COUNSELOR CONNECTS.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include information about a SURVEY for parents, an update to the district's plan for a WORLD LANGUAGE curriculum, and details regarding new ENRICHMENT CLUBS for kids.  Plus, October is Breast Cancer AWARENESS MONTH.  Learn how students across the district are raising money to help fight this dreadful disease.  And it's not too late to help out and be part of this year's World of Possibilities CAREER FAIR.

Don't forget to check out the IN FOCUS PHOTO GALLERY which features dozens of snapshots from across the district.  Plus, find out what people are talking about in this week's RUMOR MILL.  There are plenty of musical and theatrical performances happening in the next few weeks.  Be sure to check them out in our MUSIC/THEATER section.  And we recognize students for their accomplishments in the areas of academics, athletics and the arts in this week's AWARDS & ACCOLADES.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.
