ISSUE 7
October 27, 2011

IN THIS ISSUE...

It has been a busy couple of weeks here at IN FOCUS.  The 2011-12 school year is rolling right along and we have plenty of great stories and information to share with you.  We begin with a big announcement: Williamson County Schools was recently chosen to be on the College Board's annual AP District HONOR ROLL.  We'll explain why this is such a big honor and tell you what it means for the district.

This issue of IN FOCUS also features several video stories.  In the first one, we'll take you to Fairview where U.S. Senator LAMAR ALEXANDER paid a recent visit to Westwood Elementary School and inspired students with stories of his walk across Tennessee.  Just a few miles down the road, students at Fairview Middle School are finding new ways to improve their PHYSICAL FITNESS thanks to some recent additions to their PE program.

We also have a video that was produced by Ravenwood High School seniors John Kapu and Derek Cressman.  They'll show you how more than 450 of their Ravenwood classmates volunteered their time to help out in the community for an annual event known as the GREAT DAY OF SERVICE.  Last but not least, students at Heritage Middle School are finding new challenges thanks to the school's ROBOTICS CLUB.  We'll explain how it's teaching them important lessons in the fields of math and science.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include the results of a recent evaluation of the district's SPECIAL EDUCATION services, a BIG DONATION for Centennial High School, and the always popular RUMOR MILL.  Plus, we'll tell you how you can help Longview Elementary School win $10,000 for its FITNESS PROGRAM and get you ready for this year's CHS HOLIDAY SHOW.

Don't forget to check out the IN FOCUS PHOTO GALLERY which features dozens of snapshots from across the district.  Plus, we present the first ACADEMIC ALL-STARS of the 2011-12 school year.  And there are many musical and theatrical performances which will be happening in the next few weeks.  Be sure to check them out in our MUSIC/THEATER section.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.
