ISSUE 9
December 1, 2011

IN THIS ISSUE...

December is finally here which means there are only a few more weeks to go before the end of the semester and the start of Winter Break.  First semester exams will be held December 15-20.

This issue of IN FOCUS features three videos for you to enjoy.  A group of senior citizens head BACK TO SCHOOL for a special event at Independence High School, second graders create their very own MOCK CITY at Oak View Elementary and thousands of eighth graders discovered a world of possibilities at the county's annual CAREER FAIR.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include information about the district's inclement WEATHER POLICY as well as a NEW SURVEY for Williamson County residents.  Plus, we'll share with you the details of the 2012-13 SCHOOL CALENDAR and the district's Five Year CAPITAL OUTLAY Plan.  We also have information regarding several STATE LAWS that could affect third grade students, as well as a State mandate that requires the district to begin using TCAP SCORES to calculate student grades.

Dozens of Williamson County middle and high school students were recognized at this year's MODEL UN CONFERENCE.  We'll tell you who they are.  Plus, the Independence High School Show Choir recently performed with country music star JIMMY WAYNE.  And Summit High School is one step closer to a huge CASH PRIZE.  We'll tell you how you can help them reach their goal.

The holiday season is here. There are plenty of holiday concerts, plays and other events happening at schools across the district in the coming weeks. Our MUSIC/THEATER section is packed with information on holiday performances for you to enjoy.  Plus, be sure to check out this week's STUDENT SPOTLIGHT award winners.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released December 15.
