Issue 17
March 31, 2011

Now that Spring Break is over, it's back to business as usual.  This is always an active time of year for Williamson County Schools.  Whether it's prom, TCAP tests or team sports, it seems everyone is staying busy.  In this issue of IN FOCUS, you'll find plenty of stories including a look at how third graders at Oak View Elementary School are learning about business thanks to an annual event called MARKET DAY.  Plus, learn how a recent FIELD TRIP is changing the way fourth graders at Bethesda Elementary School view their community.  And a New York Times BEST-SELLING AUTHOR brings his message of perseverance to eighth grade students at Heritage Middle School.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include study tips for students preparing to take the TCAP EXAM, new information regarding the WCS BUDGET, and a list of dates and locations for this year's high school PROMS.  Also, we'll reveal the winners of this year's SHINING APPLE Awards and tell you about a SUPPORT GROUP for parents of students with special needs.

It's no secret that Williamson County is home to thousands of talented students and staff.  This week, we recognize four new ACADEMIC ALL-STARS.  Find out who they are.  Plus, the Williamson County Board of Education recently honored more than a dozen winners of state and national competitions with STUDENT SPOTLIGHT awards.  We'll also show you which educators are earning accolades for their hard work in a new section called STAFF SPOTLIGHT.

Be sure to check out our MUSIC/THEATER section where you'll find info about upcoming performances including Ravenwood High School's production of Fame and Fairview High's Afraid of the Dark.  And learn the latest regarding plans for a new high school in the Nolensville area in our RUMOR MILL section.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will come out April 14.
