ISSUE 13
February 4, 2010

IN THIS ISSUE...

School is back in session following the biggest snowstorm to hit Middle Tennessee in seven years.  The snow and ice that fell on Williamson County led to unsafe driving conditions and prompted officials to CLOSE SCHOOL for three days.  Fortunately, the roads were clear enough for students to return to the classroom February 3.

This issue of IN FOCUS features four video stories.  In the first one, we'll take you to Westwood Elementary School where fifth graders are learning how to make their very own NEWSPAPER.  Plus, school resource officers can be found at every middle school and high school in the district.  We'll show you how they PROTECT AND EDUCATE Williamson County students on a daily basis.  Meanwhile, students at several schools celebrated a special occasion last month.  We'll show you how the kids at Trinity and Walnut Grove Elementary marked 100 DAYS of school.  And high school basketball is in full swing right now.  Be sure to check out the WCS SPORTS REPORT for highlights and scores from some recent games.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include information about a PROM FASHION SHOW at Centennial High School.  We'll explain why attending this event is a good idea for any student who's planning to go to prom.  Plus, eighth graders at Brentwood Middle School get an IMPORTANT LESSON from their high school counterparts.  It's part of a recent program called What I Wish I Would Have Known as a Freshman.  And it won't open until August, but the new Pearre Creek Elementary School already has a MASCOT.  We'll tell you what it is.

This week's PHOTO GALLERY features more than two dozen snapshots from schools across the district.  Plus, you'll also find information regarding Ravenwood's annual Music 4 Music concert and Page High School's performance of Cinderella in the MUSIC/THEATRE section. And don't forget to check out the AWARDS & ACCOLADES section where you'll find information about many of the wonderful accomplishments by Williamson County students.

Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS to keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will come out February 18.
