September 2, 2010

We are three weeks into the 2010-2011 school year and things are off to a fantastic start.  As the official start of autumn approaches, there are a few things parents should keep in mind.  Parent teacher conferences will take place later this month; the first quarter grading period will come to an end in October; and Fall Break will be here before you know it.

This issue of IN FOCUS features two video stories.  In the first one, we'll take you inside Crockett Elementary School and show you how they recognize the first day of kindergarten with an annual event called the BOO HOO BREAKFAST.  Then, it's off to Lipscomb Elementary where a fifth grader named Nicholas Walter was instrumental in the addition of a brand new WATER FOUNTAIN.

As previously mentioned, PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES are coming up soon.  We have advice on how to make your conference as productive as possible.  Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include an update to the district's STRATEGIC PLANNING process, new information about REZONING and the latest on the effort to build a new elementary school in the BREEZEWAY subdivision.  Plus, we'll let you know when you can expect to see your child's first PROGRESS REPORT of the 2010-2011 school year.  And don't forget to check out this week's RUMOR MILL where we separate fact from fiction.

If you'd like to begin receiving NEWS UPDATES from Williamson County Schools via text message, we'll show you how.  Plus, a local radio station recently named a Williamson County educator its TEACHER OF THE WEEK.  And some very talented students showed off their skills at two recent CHARACTER UNDER CONSTRUCTION competitions.

We hope you enjoy all this issue of IN FOCUS has to offer.  Please encourage others to sign up for IN FOCUS so they can keep on top of what's going on inside Williamson County Schools.  All they need to do is send us an EMAIL letting us know they'd like to begin receiving IN FOCUS.  The next issue will be released August September 16.
