The 2008-2009 school year is off to a great start in Williamson County.  Nearly 30,000 students returned to the classroom for their first half-day Monday, August 11.  The first full day of class was August 12.

In this issue of IN FOCUS, you'll find important news regarding an update to the social SECURITY BREACH.  Plus, parents will be happy to know that Williamson County Schools continues to outperform the state when it comes to ACT TEST SCORES.  This issue also includes important information regarding OPEN HOUSE dates and times, school HEALTH SCREENINGS and details concerning SPORTS PHYSICALS.

We have plenty of videos for you to check out in this issue.  Among them: a look back at the sights and sounds from the FIRST DAY of school, teachers at Fairview Elementary start a new tradition called the SPIRIT TOUR and a Scales student shows he is one of the BEST BOWLERS in the state.  Plus, hear from some of the NEW TEACHERS who will be teaching students all around Williamson County.  And last but not least, IN FOCUS is proud to debut a new feature called the WCS SPORTS REPORT.  Each issue will feature highlights and scores from athletic events across the county.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include details on a MENTORING PROGRAM for students interested in construction and architecture, information about a new program designed to BUILD CHARACTER among students and details regarding JOB OPPORTUNITIES with the Williamson County Schools Child Nutrition Department.  Plus, find out how you can be a part of this year's World of Possibilities CAREER FAIR, and details regarding Williamson Medical Centers new ACADEMIC CALENDARS.

One of the best things about IN FOCUS is that we get a chance to highlight all the wonderful accomplishments of Williamson County students.  In this issue, you'll read how a Fairview High School graduate managed to win a very PRESTIGIOUS AWARD.  But he's not the only graduate making news.  We'll also tell you about a Brentwood grad who's earning some national recognition for her AMAZING ARTWORK.

The Williamson County High School Marching Band Exhibition is coming up soon.  You can find out all the information in our MUSIC/THEATRE section.  Plus, we have a few snapshots in our PHOTO GALLERY and feel free to TEST YOUR KNOWLEDGE with the SAT Question of the Day.

As always, feel free to CONTACT US if you have any questions or comments.  The next issue of IN FOCUS will come out August 28.
