ISSUE 11
January 15, 2009

WELCOME BACK

It's time to get excited about the second semester.  We hope you had a wonderful and relaxing holiday break and are ready to start 2009 off right.  In this issue of IN FOCUS, we have one video for you to enjoy.  This week's WCS SPORTS REPORT contains highlights from several high school basketball games including a thrilling buzzer beater.

You will also find important information regarding the search for a new DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS.  Plus, parents may soon be able to pay for their CHILD'S LUNCH online.  We'll tell you all about that, as well as other changes to the Child Nutrition Department.  And find out how Williamson County Schools is planning to improve AIR QUALITY on some of its school buses.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS highlight student achievements.  We'll explain why a group of eighth graders recently appeared on a local RADIO SHOW.  Plus, some high school students will travel to New York this semester to compete in the VIRTUAL ENTERPRISE Business Plan Competition.

You can also read about DUAL ENROLLMENT opportunities for high school students, information regarding the county's first NATIONAL BOARD COHORT, and details surrounding this year's WALK ACROSS WILLIAMSON program.

We also want to let you know about several upcoming events including an informational meeting for people who wish to learn more about DYSLEXIA.  And the Williamson County Family Resource Center will sponsor a free workshop for parents who want to help their children do better in MATH AND READING.

Be sure and check out some of the snapshots from schools across the district in our  PHOTO GALLERY.  Plus, high schools are hard at work preparing for their spring musicals.  Find out the dates and times for productions of The Sound of Music, Grease and Footloose in our MUSIC/THEATRE section.

As always, please encourage others to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS if they do not already receive it.  And be sure and SEND US any comments or suggestions you might have.  The next issue of IN FOCUS will be released on January 29.
