IN THIS ISSUE...

Autumn is finally here and the first quarter grading period is coming to an end.  Students have plenty to be excited about these days. In addition to all the homecoming events and festivals, Fall Break is less than a week away.  Students will have Thursday, October 16 and Friday, October 17 off, giving both them and their teachers a well-deserved break.

This issue of IN FOCUS features a total of four videos.  In the first one, we follow a high school senior as she experiences Williamson County's COLLEGE NIGHT.  Plus, find out how the SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTE is helping Williamson County teachers get excited about history.  Homecoming events are happening at schools across the county this month.  Check out some of the sights and sounds from events at Brentwood, Centennial and Independence high schools with our HOMECOMING recap.  And as always, find out what's happening in the world of Williamson County athletics with the WCS SPORTS REPORT.

In other news happening around the district, there is an update to the SECURITY BREACH involving Williamson County students.  Also this week, information for people interested in being a part of this year's World of Possibilities CAREER FAIR, and find out what's up for grabs at this weekend's SURPLUS AUCTION.  What name would you give to the county's next middle school?  The School Board would like to know, so be sure and SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS before it's too late.  And find out which Williamson County students earned the remarkable honor of being name NATIONAL MERIT SEMIFINALISTS.

There are dozens of activities happening across the county.  Be sure and check out the FUNDRAISER section to find out what's going on in your neck of the woods.  We also have several upcoming performances listed in the MUSIC/THEATRE section including Ravenwood's production of the Oscar Wilde play The Importance of Being Earnest.  Get a glimpse of life inside the classroom with our PHOTO GALLERY.  Inside, you'll find snapshots of students and teachers from schools across the county.

Please remind folks to SIGN UP to receive IN FOCUS, and SEND US any comments or suggestions you might have.  The next issue of IN FOCUS will be released October 23.
