ISSUE 6

IN THIS ISSUE...

This edition of IN FOCUS features four new videos.  In the first one, watch as students from two Williamson County elementary schools participate in a semi-annual CLOTHING DRIVE to benefit children living in Nashville.  It was truly a heart-warming experience.  Next up, travel to a place called BIZTOWN, where fifth graders learn how to own a business, work a job and balance a budget.  Also this week, find out how local authors are helping middle school students become better writers at the annual POWER OF THE PEN writing conference.  And as always, check out the highlights and scores from athletic events across the county in the WCS SPORTS REPORT.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this edition of IN FOCUS include information about DUAL ENROLLMENT opportunities at MTSU, details about an upcoming class for students interested in a MEDICAL CAREER and the latest regarding next month's World of Possibilities CAREER FAIR.  Plus, find out how the staff at Nolensville Elementary School is encouraging parents and students to get MORE EXERCISE, and learn how Woodland Middle School students celebrated TEEN READ WEEK.

When it comes to learning, studies show exercise may play a larger role than first thought.  WCS Health and Wellness Specialist Ken Brooks explains why new research has more and more teachers examining the benefits of CLASSROOM EXERCISE.  Plus, find important health information and recipes inside this month's edition of Williamson County Schools' IN TOP FORM newsletter.  And last, but not least, find out how to apply for several JOB OPPORTUNITIES with the WCS Child Nutrition Department.

Don't forget to check out the IN FOCUS PHOTO GALLERY, which features more than 40 snapshots from schools across the county.  Plus, there are many all festivals and other events happening this time of year.  Go to our FUNDRAISER section for all the details.  And find out which teachers were recently honored with the first WC-TV TEACHER FEATURE of the school year.

Also, be sure to pass along the word to parents and business and community members to SIGN UP for IN FOCUS.  We want all Williamson County residents to be informed about their school district. Enjoy this issue, and look for the next issue on November 6.
