ISSUE 7
November 6, 2008

IN THIS ISSUE...

The month of November is here which means Turkey Day is right around the corner.  Don't forget, students will have the entire week off for Thanksgiving this year.  They will not report back to school until Monday, December 1.

This issue of IN FOCUS features four videos.  In the first one, we'll show you how local students used the recent PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN to learn more about our democracy.  Plus, check out some of the ways Williamson County Schools are keeping students ACTIVE & HEALTHY this fall.  Homecoming events were held recently at four area high schools.  We'll show you some of the sights and sounds from events at Fairview, Franklin, Page and Ravenwood high schools with our HOMECOMING RECAP.  And high school football playoffs begin this weekend.  Find out which teams will face off in the first round in the WCS SPORTS REPORT.

Some of the other stories you'll find in this issue of IN FOCUS include information about this week's PTO/PTA MEETINGS, details regarding a new AUTISM SUPPORT GROUP and information on how to apply for the FREE & REDUCED LUNCH PROGRAM.  We'll also explain why students at Page High School ditched their shoes for a special event called BAREFOOT DAY, and you'll learn how a local civic club is helping hundreds of children by offering free VISION SCREENINGS.  Also, a veteran in the Child Nutrition Department hangs up his hat after 19 years in the business.  We'll say farewell to Child Nutrition Director JAMES GRIFFITH.

Don't forget to check out the IN FOCUS PHOTO GALLERY which features dozens of snapshots from across the district.  Plus, Williamson County schools are full of talented students.  You'll find some of their artwork on display in our STUDENT ART section.  And there are many activities happening across the county.  Be sure and check out our  FUNDRAISER section and the MUSIC/THEATRE section to find out what's going on in your neck of the woods.

As always, please remind folks to SIGN UP to receive IN FOCUS, and SEND US any comments or suggestions you might have.  The next issue of IN FOCUS will be released November 20.
