The Academic All-Star award is given to students who exhibit a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence in the classroom. Each Academic All-Star is chosen by his or her principal and receives a framed certificate, free food from Sonic Drive-In and other gifts from the district.
Ten-year-old Olivia Vanns is a natural leader who’s known for her hard work, humility and kindness.
That’s why she was recently named Edmondson Elementary School’s Academic All-Star for the 2017-18 school year.
“Olivia is a hard worker who is diligent and pushes herself,” said her teachers. “She has an inner drive to seek understanding which is rooted in her love of learning. Olivia is a great friend, teammate and crew member who always celebrates others and desires to see them succeed.”
Olivia began attending Edmondson in the fall. Although she was nervous at first, she says the transition to a new school has gone very well.
“It’s kind of hard to make new friends and everything, but everybody has been so nice to me and made me feel welcome here,” said Olivia. “The teachers are really good, and they help me out. If I get a bad grade they try to encourage me to try harder on the next test.”
When she’s not in school, Olivia can often be found on a soccer field. As a member of a travel team, Olivia loves playing and practicing with her teammates.
“I like soccer because we get to work together as a team,” said Olivia. “We make good connections and become great friends.”
As she nears the spring semester of her fifth grade year, Olivia pledges to keep working hard and says she’s grateful for all the support she’s received thus far at Edmondson.
“I like to push myself so that I’m doing good in school and getting good grades,” said Olivia. “I’m very blessed to have teachers who are proud of me.”
