Throughout the week, Brentwood Middle School has been acknowledging its annual Cancer Awareness Week. The highlight of the week was the Student Government Association’s (SGA) tailgate followed by basketball games from all four BMS teams.
The night of excitement started in the cafeteria with pizza, matching shirts and a banner dedicated to those who had been affected by cancer.
“This tradition certainly predates my time at Brentwood Middle School,” said BMS Assistant Principal Jason Loudon. “Cancer is just an awful thing. It affects so many people.”
While students enjoyed the pizza and the games, the purpose of the week was to support survivors and honor those who had fallen, Loudon said.
“We just want to enlighten people about cancer statistics and just how widespread the impact of the disease is,” Loudon said.
