The Brentwood Robotics Team is showing its skills with a successful trip to the Music City Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology (BEST) Tournament.

The BEST Tournament requires a team to split into two groups: one that builds a small robot and one that handles the other tournament challenges and requirements. Success in the tournament is measured by the team’s engineering notebook design, marketing presentation, interviews in the team’s exhibit booth, spirit and sportsmanship and the robot’s performance in competition.

The team, containing of both Brentwood Middle and Brentwood High students, earned the Best Costume, Best Teacher and Best Marketing Presentation Awards.

“I am impressed with the ability of young students identify problems and quality performance standards and use that knowledge to formulate a plan, organize their resources and coordinate actions,” said Brentwood High science teacher Dr. Roberto Marrero. “Over the last four years, they have advanced from a rookie club into a competitive robotics team.”

The team’s year doesn’t end there. The attention will now focus on preparing 15 teams for upcoming VEX Robotic Competition (VRC) qualifiers. The first of the VRC qualifiers is the White House VRC Invitational on November 10.

“Our club activities are directed to prepare as many teams as practical for participation in these meets,” Marrero said.
