It was a night for the books at Mill Creek Elementary’s inaugural Family Reading Night January 24.
Though the school has hosted a Read-a-Thon for three years, this was the first time students and their families were invited to spend an evening celebrating reading.
“We had over 400 people attend our first Reading Night,” said Mill Creek Elementary teaching assistant Ali Fricke. “Families could learn yoga as they read, spend time with our mascot Bolt and have a family picnic night.”
Cat in the Hat also made an appearance to read to the families, and students could take pictures with the mural they created as a school.
“The mural was made out of feathers that each student decorated and turned into wings, because Reading gives you Wings,” Fricke said.
