After an author study on Jan Brett, kindergarten students at Trinity Elementary dressed up and took the stage.
During their study, students worked on sequence and retelling a story. To make it more exciting, they started planning a production to show parents.
“We thought Reader’s Theater would be a fun way to practice retelling the story while also working on reading with fluency and expression,” said Trinity Elementary kindergarten teacher Rebecca Miller. “The students practiced reading their lines independently during read-to-self time and at home.”
This was the group’s first venture in a Reader’s Theater, but based on parent reaction, it won’t be the last.
“This performance was a great way to show parents one of the fun ways we practice reading at school,” Miller said. “It might end up being a new tradition.”
