Second grade students at Allendale Elementary are having a ball in science class where they are testing friction.

AES teacher Val Black’s class rolled ping pong balls, bouncy balls, golf balls and tennis balls down a Styrofoam half-pipe to test the friction of each material. This lab experiment is part of the new science curriculum created last year.

“The students observed how different materials affect speed at different heights,” said Black. “This was the first time we opened these science kits, and they’re having a great time with them.”
