The Mill Creek Middle theater department is in the national spotlight after winning the Outstanding Production Award at the Junior Theater Festival in Atlanta over the weekend.

Out of 127 musical theater troupes from around the world, Mill Creek Middle’s performance of Once on This Island earned the Outstanding Production Award in the middle school division. The group was one of only six to perform in front of all 6,532 attendees. The Junior Theater Festival is the largest gathering of young musical theater performers in the world.

“It’s unreal,” said MCMS student Whitney Reamer. “I was really excited for the performance and just watching the others perform. Everyone is so connected to this show.”

Additionally, Whitney and Gabriel Moyer were named to the All-Star Cast. Whitney and Gabriel participated in a special performance the day of the award ceremony, and they are invited to audition for a summer intensive in New York City. Isabella Bacigalupo was named an All-Star Technician and given the opportunity to shadow professional technicians and work with professional performers.

“Acting is what these students want to do and are trying to do,” said MCMS theater director Allison Isom. “The festival is a chance for them to be a part of that.”
