Throughout the school year, teachers at Scales Elementary have been taking their students on a journey to the 1900s to teach them about women’s suffrage.
To celebrate the 100-year anniversary of women gaining the right to vote, schools around the district were tasked with having one lesson per month about the topic. Scales Elementary took it a step further and started performing interactive skits, complete with costumes and props, every other week at their Friday meetings.
Despite school buildings being closed for the remainder of the semester, the teachers wanted to complete their lessons and share what they’ve been doing with the rest of the district. Scales Elementary fifth grade teachers Melody Scott and Sara Turner have several more videos planned but wanted to start with an introduction. Hear from Anne and Abby, two suffragettes in the early 1900s.
