CMA Foundation Honors WCS Music Teachers

Four Williamson County Schools music teachers have been named Music Teachers of Excellence by the Country Music Association (CMA) Foundation, an honor bestowed to only 34 teachers this year. The Music Teachers of Excellence Award recognizes those teachers who have made a positive impact in their classrooms and schools as a result of the music they teach. The award was launched in 2016 after interviewing music teachers about the challenges in music education. Pearre Creek Soars at Science Olympiad

Last year, the Pearre Creek Elementary Science Team won seven medals at the Science Olympiad sponsored by the Middle Tennessee State University Science Department. This year, they won 27. More than 20 PCES students traveled to Murfreesboro to compete, and they returned to Williamson County with an impressive number of medals, nearly quadrupling the amount they won in 2017. Brad Bramlett Having just graduated from Lipscomb University's IDEAL program, former WCS student Brad Bramlett is ready for his next opportunity. The Summit High School graduate worked for a year at Nissan World Headquarters prior to his acceptance into the IDEAL program. IDEAL stands for Igniting the Dream of Education and Access at Lipscomb. It is a two year, non-residential certificate program that is designed to encourage students with intellectual or developmental disabilities to experience college like their peers. Franklin High Students Win Best PSA, Campaign Against Distracted Driving

The year-long efforts of Franklin High students came to fruition after they were awarded Best Public Service Announcement (PSA) and Best Campaign for their work to prevent distracted driving in their school and community. The Be in the Zone campaign, sponsored by the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, the Allstate Foundation and Ford Motor Company, encouraged students to use various promotional techniques and strategies in order to caution against distracted driving. Electricity and short stories come together during the annual Washington Youth Tour Creative Writing contest. Each year, high school juniors are given an idea and the task to create a short story. The prize? An all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. Page High School student Ciaran Francis is one of 15 students from the Middle Tennessee Electric service area to be Washington-bound. United Way Recognizes Williamson County Schools

On April 28, Williamson County Schools once again earned recognition from the United Way of Williamson County for the efforts of the district and its students at the annual Community and Volunteer Celebration Awards.
