Students Taking A Right Stand (STARS)
STARS is a nonprofit organization that supports young people through the social and emotional barriers they face. Our five evidence-based school and community programs address issues like bullying, substance abuse and violence. In addition to our programs and services in Tennessee, STARS is also an important national resource for training and professional consultation.
STARS’ services have produced consistent outcomes, such as:
- Increased school attendance and better grades
- Increased attachment to school and community
- Increased individual resilience
- Reduced suspensions, expulsions, bullying, violence, delinquency and substance abuse
Role of the STARS Specialist, Mrs. Swiggart
I am a Student Assistance Specialist who provides prevention education and intervention services (individual, group, and crisis counseling) for students. Some of the areas I address are bullying, substance abuse, violence, and social and emotional issues.
The Core Team is made up of faculty and staff dedicated to supporting and advocating for STARS. The Core Team, Student Assistance Specialist, and Student Leadership Team work together to identify key prevention issues relevant to Mill Creek Middle School and promote prevention events throughout the school year.
