The Anime club is where students will be able to participate in conversations and artistic activities revolving around Anime shows, movies, and Manga books. There is an Anime Club Schoology group students can join for information on new meeting dates. Students need a permission slip from a parent to participate in the group.

The Art Club gives students a chance to build their creative and artistic skills in a welcoming and collaborative environment. Each meeting focuses on a different theme or technique to practice. This club meets once a month and runs throughout the school year.

The Battle of the Books is an extracurricular opportunity for students who enjoy reading and discussing books.  Students are given a list of books to read in the fall.  A Battle of the Books book club will meet for 8 weeks to discuss the books. Anyone who wishes to be considered for the team needs to take a preliminary test.  The students with the eight highest scores and who participated in the book club will be chosen for the team.  Following team selection, meetings are held to discuss the books and quiz each other on the content.  In late March/early April, each middle school team meets for a quiz bowl contest.  Students compete against their peers on content related questions pertaining to the assigned books.

Best Buddies is a club that seeks to connect children of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities with buddies to form and maintain friendships. This allows all students social outlets and inclusion in activities.

The Brentwood Middle School Chess Club welcomes all students who want to learn to play or improve at the game of chess.  Students can play for fun or sharpen their skills for tournament competitions.  Being a member of the chess club helps students improve problem solving and concentration skills, as well as provide a positive environment for student interaction.  Matches are held after school.

The mission of ITS is to honor student achievement in the theater arts. High school inductees are known as Thespians and junior high/middle school inductees are known as Junior Thespians. ITS is a division of the Educational Theater Association (EdTA). BMS offers membership to students who have earned qualifying points by participating in BMS plays and musical productions. There is a leadership team of elected students within the organization.

Students at all grade levels are selected for the math teams based on a tryout test. Students from algebra and geometry will compete in the Interscholastic Math League four times throughout the year against middle and high schools. These math teams also compete in a variety of contests, including the MBA 6th Grade Invitational and the State competition held at MTSU.

Model United Nations is an activity for students who want to learn about other countries.  Students, in teams of 2-4, research a country of their choice.  Finding a problem that could be shared at the Model UN, students prepare a presentation. On the day of the conference, students present the resolution to the Model United Nations, which consists of other students.  Teams form and select a country in late August. Teams meet weekly to prepare for the conference which is held in November.

The National Junior Honor Society chapter of Brentwood Middle School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization.  The group focuses on community service and developing leadership skills. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in these areas of evaluation: scholarship, leadership, and service. Students are selected to be members by a Faculty Council which bestows this honor each year upon qualified students on behalf of our school. Students apply for membership after the third nine weeks of their 7th grade year.

Quiz Bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more.  Students compete in regional, state and national competitions.  Weekly practices and study sessions are expected of all team members.  Members are determined based on ability and interest.

A team of 15 students work on teamwork and problem solving to prepare for 23 exciting events.  There are a variety of events in earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computers and technology.  Students of any grade level may try out for this competitive academic team. Students are tested in these areas via building projects, labs, and tests at a variety of competition events during the season.  It begins in late September and competitions start in January and typically last through April.

Speech and debate are two different disciplines that students can choose between to enhance their understanding of a claim (thesis statement), develop their higher order thinking and increase their public speaking ability.  For Speech, there are several categories for students to choose to develop their oratory skills and think on their feet in front of an audience.  Debate centers around being presented with a claim to argue based on the question presented to the team against an opposing team, through a formalized structure.

STARS (Students Taking A Right Stand) leaders will create awareness campaigns, wellness activities, and prevention initiatives each month to help promote the well-being of all students within the community. STARS leaders will collaborate on and participate in various charity projects and events. Some charity projects that students will participate in may range from Red Ribbon Week to Self Esteem Building to Anti-Bullying, while charity events may include food or clothing drives, toy collections, etc.

This is a non-denominational Christian ministry encouraging students in community and fellowship.  Fellowship of Christian Athletes meets every Thursday morning in the theater at 7:25A.M.  FCA is open to any boy or girl at Brentwood Middle School, whether or not they participate on one of the athletic teams.

The Pokemon club is a place for students to come together to play and discuss Pokémon. It’s a time to connect and make new friends who enjoy this interest.  Currently, it is only open to sixth grade students.

Competitive Robotics is a very independent, self-driven program. Students will spend the fall semester using the engineering design process to design and build a robot to best perform the Vex IQ Tournament Game for the year (search YouTube for past years’ Vex IQ Games). Students will then test and collect data on the performance of their prototype. Based upon that data, they will redesign and modify their robot to improve its performance. They will also practice basic coding for use in robot autonomous mode and learn to program novel variations of remote control. They will document the process in an engineering notebook daily, and a major portion of their grade will be derived from the quality and regularity of entries. Students will use their robots and engineering notebooks to compete in Vex IQ tournaments in the fall and spring semesters. All building and practice will be done during the school day, and various Middle TN tournaments will be held on Saturdays, typically from 7:30 AM to 5 PM. All competitive robotics students are required to pay a $75 Robotics fee to cover VEX registration fees, tournament fees, and t-shirts. Additional fees may be required.

In this class, students will arrange, rehearse, and perform music in a variety of forms. Students will sing acapella and with instruments. Additional musical opportunities include accompanying peers on piano, percussion, and incorporating other instruments to enhance performance. PowerHouse is an auditioned, coed vocal performing group that includes 20-25 students from 6th, 7th and 8th grade who are interested in making music together. Auditions will be held in August.

All Brentwood Middle School students are invited to audition for our fall play and spring musical.  Students must be willing and able to rehearse Monday through Friday, after school.  Performances run for four nights. If students would rather work behind the scenes, they may apply to work on our various technical crews (run crew, hair/makeup, publicity, stage management, lights, sound, and house management).  Whether actor or crew member, a BMS theater production is an exciting and fun way for students to become involved in their school.

Meeting Times: For the Fall play, tryouts and rehearsals are held from September to October.  For the spring musical, tryouts and rehearsals are held from December to March.  All are held after school and the times will vary.
