We are the Sabers

Sunset Middle opened its doors for the 2006-2007 school year and was built to meet the needs of the rapidly growing communities of Brentwood and Nolensville, Tennessee. The Saber was selected as the mascot for the school by the inaugural class of students in February 2006. The school colors are orange, light blue, and navy. For the first nine years of our school’s history, enrollment averaged 750 students. SMS was named a Reward School for Academic Achievement and Progress for the 2012-2013, 2013-2014, and 2016-2017 school years. In 2015-2016, enrollment increased to over 900 students, and Mill Creek Middle was built to alleviate over-crowding. SMS currently houses over 500 sixth, seventh and eighth grade students, primarily from the Brentwood community. SMS continues to build on a rich heritage of excellence by offering a progressive yet traditional approach to education. Sunset Middle has and will continue to provide a balance between academics, athletics, and fine arts for all its students.

Vision Statement

We envision Sunset Middle School to be a place where everyone is actively engaged in the educational process. Lifelong learning is an expectation; learners are motivated to think critically, creatively, collaboratively, and independently while refining skills in the transfer of knowledge and understanding to new contexts, situations, and challenges. Sunset Middle recognizes the uniqueness of the middle school student and the importance of a successful transition period between elementary school and high school.

Mission Statement

The Mission of Sunset Middle School is to challenge students to be enthusiastic learners, creative thinkers, and responsible citizens capable of contributing to a democratic society.

The Saber mascot makes the number one sign
