The Fairview High School JROTC Battalion was featured on News Channel Four due to their accomplishments on February 10, 2020. According to “Big Joe,” the Fairview JROTC Battalion caught his attention due to their extreme courtesy, respect, and discipline during a football game last year. In addition, their national ranking in Raiders, awards in Fencing and Mountain Man, and their exemplary Color Guard helped boost them to TV-worthy status. When asked for commentary, First Sergeant Turk expressed his surprise and honor about when Channel Four contacted him for the segment. He remarked “I wanted to recognize our kids and JROTC as a whole as best I could… but I was very happy,” which only highlighted his comment on the segment regarding how “JROTC has something for everyone.” From fencing to robotics, to Raiders to Color Guard, they want to “push kids to be their best.” Although it isn’t the battalion’s first time being on TV, this was an honor that will go down in Fairview history.
