Thompson’s Station Media Center

The Thompson’s Station Middle Media Center is devoted to support student learning by providing a wide range of resources for students, faculty, and staff that will facilitate student learning and growth.  The TSMS Media Center is also excited to be opening its doors with over 6,500 books for students to explore as they continue to develop their love of reading. The TSMS Media Center Staff is committed to working closely with students and staff as they become effective users of digital information tools, to aid in fostering a love of reading, and to encourage creative thinking through MakerSpace opportunities.

Media Center Policies

6th-8th grade: Students may check out three books for a two-week circulation period.

Open Checkout: The library is open from 7:15 AM until 3:00 PM for students and faculty.

Renewed Books: Books may be renewed one time for an additional two-week period but must then be returned for others to enjoy.

Please return damaged books to the library for repair. They will be assessed as to the severity of the damage by the Library Media Specialist. Books that are deemed damaged beyond repair must be replaced. A damage bill with replacement costs will be sent home. Please note that should a page accidentally rip, please return your book to the library and we will repair the page with special tape. Checkout privileges are suspended until arrangements are made between parents and library staff to take care of damaged book fees.

Books that have not surfaced in 30 days are presumed to be lost. An overdue bill with the cost of replacing the book will be sent home. Checkout privileges are suspended until arrangements are made to remit payment for the lost book/s. If a lost book is found within the same year, you may return it to the library and our school bookkeeper will issue a refund check. If a lost book is found during another school year; unfortunately, we are unable to issue a refund. In these instances, the book will be yours to keep.

There is not a fine for overdue books; however if a student has an overdue book, checkout privileges are suspended until the book is returned or arrangements are made with the library media staff.

Accelerated Reader Program

Accelerated Reader is a supplemental reading program used to help strengthen student reading and comprehension skills. Three times a year, students will take the STAR Reading Assessment. This assessment will provide a reading range for each student.  Students are required to read 2 A.R.  books each nine weeks within his or her individualized reading range: one nonfiction and one fiction. The School Library Media Staff and English teachers can provide grade level specific information. In order to make it easier for students to find books within their ranges, the library staff and parent volunteers (thank you) have color-coded the books. Please consult the color code  to determine our color system. A.R. Bookfind is a wonderful tool to check reading levels and Accelerated Reader availability of books in your homes.

Media Center Resources

The TSMS library makerspace is an area that offers library patrons an opportunity to create intellectual and physical materials using resources such as computers, 3-D printers, Snap Circuits, 3-D pens, Legos, Keva Planks, Cubelets, and traditional arts and crafts supplies.

The TSMS online card catalog allows students to search for and locate library materials.

During Study Focus, students may come to the library with teacher permission. Students who come to the library to work for the period must sign in on an iPad to document their arrival and dismissal from the library. Students working in the library during Study Focus must be respectful of other library patrons and their use of the library. The TSMS Library Staff reserves the right to remove students who are not following library procedures, being a distraction or disrespectful from the library at any time. The library is the hub of TSMS, and the library staff works diligently to ensure that it is a space for ALL students who attend TSMS.
